Summary

Seeking a Head of History and Religious Studies, with the ability to inspire and motivate children of all abilities, and to stimulate the pupils’ real interest and love of the subject throughout the School.

Detail

Queen Mary's seeks to appoint an inspirational, dynamic and extremely competent Head of History and Religious Studies, with the ability to inspire and motivate children of all abilities, and to stimulate the pupils’ real interest and love of the subject throughout the School.

This is a full-time role and it is desirable that the outstanding candidate would have the ability to teach History and Religious Studies (the ability to teach Geography would be of interest), in Key Stage 3 and 4.

The Head of History and Religious Studies will be responsible for the strategic leadership and management of this thriving Department. The department has a broad and balanced curriculum designed to engage pupils with the real-life applications of the subjects. We want pupils to have an appreciation and curiosity for the subject and be excited to study the subject at a greater depth. History and Religious Studies helps pupils understand about the world in which we live. All pupils study History at KS3 and it is a very popular GCSE option.

Our pupils make excellent progress, and we achieve consistently outstanding results. The pupils experience History through exemplary teaching and learning as well as extracurricular activities such as clubs and trips to the theatre, visits to historical sites all which extend our pupils’ understanding.

Would you be willing to contribute to the extra-curricular life of this busy, exciting and successful school? Are you a pro-active team player, always positive, inspirational, flexible, and calm under pressure, when working in a busy school environment? If you have the energy, commitment and enthusiasm to achieve outstanding academic outcomes and infuse children with a life-long passion for learning, we want to hear from you.

As a boarding and day school we maintain the traditions of boarding, working an extended teaching day (08:30-16:40 plus an evening duty until 20:00 every other week during term time).

Candidates are required to provide a History and/or Religious Studies After School Club after school one evening each week from 16:45 until 17:30 and will be required to plan and deliver a weekly lunchtime intervention to GCSE pupils in response to data.

Girls from Year 8 upwards have Saturday morning school, with teachers required to work approximately 8 Saturday mornings a year.
