Channing School is seeking to appoint an outstanding and inspiring Teacher of History to join our highly successful and well-established History Department from January 2027. This part-time role (0.8 FTE), which may be worked across five days, offers an exciting opportunity to teach across Key Stage 3, GCSE and A level within a high-achieving and deeply supportive all-girls environment, contributing to a thriving and intellectually ambitious department.

At Channing, we believe that the study of History enables young women to explore and understand the people, events and ideas that have shaped the world around them, fostering intellectual curiosity, critical thinking and informed, independent judgement. History is a popular and successful subject at Channing, with pupils achieving excellent outcomes at GCSE and A level and a number progressing to study History at leading universities, including Oxford and Cambridge.

The History Department is a dynamic and collaborative team with a strong academic profile and a commitment to rigorous, engaging and intellectually ambitious teaching. At Key Stage 3, pupils follow a broad curriculum designed to develop a wide-ranging and global historical awareness. We currently teach Edexcel IGCSE History and AQA History at A level. The curriculum is supported by a rich programme of trips, visits and academic enrichment, including opportunities for overseas travel, History clubs, an annual History Conference and a student History Journal.

The successful candidate will build on this strong foundation by delivering high-quality, engaging lessons and supporting pupils to achieve their full potential. They will contribute to the co-curricular life of the department and wider school, including activities such as trips, clubs and events, and play a full role in the pastoral life of the school as a Form Tutor or Co-Tutor. This role requires a passionate and reflective teacher who is committed to excellent teaching and learning, collaborative working and ongoing professional development, and who will contribute positively to the wider life of the school.
