Junior School Teacher of PE

Summary

Channing School is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, talented and dedicated Teacher of Physical Education to join our Junior School from January 2027.

Detail

This is an exciting opportunity to join a thriving and supportive Junior School where sport and physical education play an important role in pupils' development and wider school life. At Channing, we are committed to providing an engaging, inclusive and ambitious PE and Sport programme that encourages girls of all ages and abilities to develop their confidence, physical skills, teamwork and a lifelong enjoyment of sport and physical activity.

Channing Junior School is a happy, stimulating and welcoming environment for approximately 350 girls aged 4 to 11, where pupils benefit from specialist PE teaching from Reception onwards. Sport forms an integral part of the curriculum and the School's extensive co-curricular provision, offering pupils opportunities to participate, develop their abilities and represent the School in a range of sporting activities, fixtures and competitions.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Junior School Sport to deliver high-quality PE teaching across Reception to Year 6, contributing to the ongoing development of the curriculum and supporting a varied programme of sporting activities, clubs, fixtures and events. They will plan and deliver engaging, appropriately challenging lessons that promote physical development, encourage participation and ensure that every pupil is supported to achieve her potential.

The role also involves contributing actively to the wider sporting life of the Junior School, including organising and supporting extracurricular clubs such as Swim Squad and Cross Country, coordinating fixtures and tournaments, accompanying pupils on sporting events and residential trips, and overseeing the Junior Duke Award programme. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with colleagues across the Junior and Senior Schools to support continuity in sporting provision and promote a positive and inclusive sporting culture.

We are looking for an inspirational and energetic teacher with a recognised teaching qualification and QTS, excellent teaching practice and a sound understanding of physical education across EYFS, KS1 and KS2. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong organisational and communication skills, a commitment to inclusive teaching and the ability to motivate, encourage and challenge pupils of differing abilities. They will be a positive and collaborative colleague, willing to contribute fully to the co-curricular programme and wider life of the School.

Above all, the successful candidate will share Channing's Unitarian ethos and commitment to developing fearless learners through inspiring education, exceptional co-curricular opportunities and meaningful partnerships, while promoting our values of courtesy, care and consideration.
